Welcome to the homepage of CNU’s study on Newlywed Marriage! This study is being conducted by Dr. Lindsey Hicks, an Assistant Professor of Psychology, and a team of research assistants known as the Science of Attitudes & Relationships (SOAR) Lab. This study is being conducted to investigate the factors that influence satisfaction and stability in the early years of marriage.
About the Study

This study is a longitudinal, two-year study with rolling enrollment until October 2026. Participants who enroll in the study are expected to take part in multiple sessions over a two-year period.

Engaged and newly married couples (< 4 months married) who are at least 18 years old and fluent in English are eligible to enroll.

Couples who choose to participate in the study will take part in 2 in-person sessions on CNU’s campus in Newport News, VA and 6 online sessions. Couples will be compensated for each of the sessions they participate in, with an opportunity to earn up to $330 over the two-year period.

This study has received approval by the Institutional Review Board at Christopher Newport University to ensure that it adheres to all legal and ethical guidelines for human subjects research.
